Coaching Football – Circuit Drill-TWG
This football drill is one called TWG (Turnovers Win Games) and it serves as conditioning, fun, and a skill builder. If your coaching football and want an excellent circuit drill, give this a try!
Needed: footballs and coaches.
Break the football team into like-skilled units
Circuit drills working on the takeaway
1-2 football coaches with each group, size of group can be small or large (keep the pace up)!
- FUMBLE RECOVERY–Dive,gather, secure into flat-fetal position.
- FUMBLE SCOOP – RUN: Eight knuckles should rub grass to ensure success.
- BATTLE-FOR-THE-BALL: 2 players with their backs turned find ball and DIVE-SCRAPE: battle for a loose ball.
- INTERCEPT HIGH: toss the ball between 2 players to teach catching the football at its highest point and body position.
- ANGLE-PURSUIT STRIP / RIP drill: Have pursuer grab near shoulder and Rip or Strip at ball in outside arm.
- CONVINCE THE OFFICIAL: have one player Dive and gather. All others come in as ‘late arrivals to the pile’ [from a knee shouting and pointing "FIRST-DOWN FIRST-DOWN FIRST-DOWN FIRST-DOWN...until Official (coach) is convinced]
Use as many or add to the football drills to accommodate # of players and amount of conditioning desired. Have someone separate running the clock and sounding the horn.
I have successfully implemented this football drill from the highest level of high school All-Star teams to 8yr old flag-football teams.
