I’m often asked for my ideas on coaching football philosophy. Here’s an idea that I feel is as important as any football drill you can teach–a simple coaching tip that will pay huge dividends with your team.
Give a motivational saying at some point in the week. Coaching football also means teaching your team to mature. Football is more then a strength and power game; it’s also mental. Beyond technique and football skills, football coaches must develop mental strength in their team.
Some favorites:
- It’s not the will to win, but the will to Prepare to win that makes a difference.
- You are the only one who can use your ability. It’s an awesome responsibility.
- The Achievement of your Goal is assured the moment you commit yourself.
Take the time to talk with your players weekly. You will see the payoff on the field as well as individually.
