Coaching Youth Football Teams – Blocking Drill
Coming up with new ideas for coaching youth football teams can be challenging. Try this football drill with your team and let me know how it works for you.
One of our favorite lineman football drills is a self-sorting blocking drill.
Define 3 boxes 2 yards wide by 5 yards long with pads. Use more if you need them. Put 2 boys in each one. They block each other and try to push the other player out the back of the box. The winner moves to the left, the loser to the right. This puts your best blocker in the left most box.
Keep track of who wins. He should be your starting offensive right tackle.
Focus on technique during this football drill. Do not allow holding. Test all the boys, not just the big kids.
