I tried a new method for my [tag]conditioning drills for football[/tag] this year. I had my team do pre-game warm up [tag]football drills[/tag] in the gym before we went out on the field.
I would have them do the following exercises. We would start with basic stretches, then go to partner stretches where they would use a partner to help stretch out their legs and backs. There were partner stretches that we used for the neck and back also.
Next we did what I called the dynamic warm up. It consisted of the first set was at 50%. They would run forward for the length of the gym and then return running backwards, then they would skip forwards concentrating on getting their knees as high as they could then they would return skipping backwards still concentrating on getting their knees up. Then they would karokee down and back and then the would side step down and back. Then they would do the same exercises again but this time at 75% and only go to the far free throw line.
I found that these [tag]football drill[/tag]s would get them warmed up and stretched better and also they started concentrating on the game. We are the only ones in the gym and we bonded as a team more this year.
The other schools were really good about letting us use their gyms when we went to their schools. We just made sure that everyone had gym shoes. We did all of these stretches in our shorts and t-shirts before we ever got into our pads.
I did not have any pulled muscles or cramps this year!
