These are just two of my coaching philosophies that are applicable to all ages I have coached and feel should begin the first day of practice. Part of my responsibility as a coach is to be sure each and every player understands all the positions. Additionally it is my responsibility to be sure that each and every player respects myself and their teammates. No bullying will be tolerated.
An important aspect that we changed to improve the team is at the start of the practice, during warm ups. We found our young players were not responding or stretching well enough using our static stretching routine. The kids were too sore or getting hurt in practice. We did 2 things.
This drill is for the younger kids around 6 to 9 years of age. I do a drill for the offensive line called handlebars and hamburgers. It helps keep the kids interested and makes it fun for them.
My idea for a practice drill is one that I call the distraction drill. It is a drill for wide receivers where there are two lines of receivers.
