If you’re looking for defensive drills for football, try this football drill for blocking with your team. The drill is called ‘The Bull Ring‘. The idea is to get a blocker to give you 3 to 4 seconds of blocking a defender.
Your players form a wide circle with a cone in the center. The football coach will call a blocker out and put him in front of another player still in the circle who will be the defender. The coach starts them off with a whistle or cadence and begins to count out loud the seconds the blocker is earning as the defender tries to make it to the center of the circle and knock the cone down.
The rest of the teammates in the circle see and hear what record number of seconds achieved are as they gain an enthusiasm about blocking and wanting their turn to beat the record high score. This is really good for youth football players to help them get enthusiastic about blocking.
