Defensive Football Drills – Routes of Pursuit Drill
I’m often asked for advice on defensive football drills. Here’s a football drill that will pay huge dividends with your team.
This football drill is made for the pursuit on defense. Put all defense on different formations. I put 6 receivers in the field. Two of them on the right and left outside course of an outside toss. Two of them on the hooks. And two of them on the corners.
At the count of hutt, they start making foot fire. Depends of what kind of defense, they have to react to the QB´s movements and to where is he looking. The QB will pass the football to any of the 6 receivers. When the receiver gets the ball he has to run all over the field to the end zone. The defense have to go and touch him, make a circle around him, keep making foot fire and scream as much and as loud they can.
Is very important that every defender makes good routes of pursuit in every play. The DL and LB have to do it right on the toss routes, so all of them can make a bubble so the receiver/rb can not pass.
