This is one of the drills for developing football skills that Fred, one of my readers, sent to me. Try this out with your team tonight!
From Fred,
I know some already know this football drill, but, the Penn State box drill is great for getting the blood pumping and great for everyone’s agility and “explosion.”
Line up cones in a 10 yard x 10 yard box and design your own drill. Whether you have the kids sprint out to the first cone, back peddle diagonally to the second cone, and then sprint out to the third cone it is all great work.
You can start with shuffling across the front of the box and then swivel the hips and break diagonally for the next cone while watching for the “pass” then shuffle across the back of the box to the third cone and then have them sprint straight out of the box and hit a tackling dummy. You can also hold a football on the dummy to add a fumble drill to the “box.”
If set up right, it is a great, fast-paced drill that keeps the kids moving.
