Drills for Youth Football – Bird Dog Drill & Stomp Drill
Thanks to one of my subscribers for sending this one in. If you’ve every struggled to come up with new drills for youth football, give these a try with your team.
Here are a couple of football drills that I use and the kids really get into them.
#1 Bird Dog Drill
This is an offensive line football drill where we line up staggered a couple of yards apart. On snap count we do a one step (sort of like a bird dog on point) a. Step forward with right foot, b. Step 45 degree with right foot, c. Step lateral with right foot. d. Drop step with right foot. Then repeat with left foot. We will do each one 4-5 times before we move on to the next phase.
#2 Stomp Drill
This is an offensive line drill where we line up staggered a couple of yards apart. On snap count we do as in the Bird Dog Drill, except each time I say “Stomp” they stomp the next foot in the same direction of the first step. We go through all the phases of the Bird Dog Drill repeating each 3-4 times.
The players like these football drills and it really helps us with basic fundamentals of footwork on our blocks.
