Greg sent this one to me last week. You don’t have to be a famous football coach to see that this is an effective football receiver drill that works on skills and on team building. Try it with your team!
From Greg…
A cool receiver drill that I do involves writing four letters (N,S,P,E) on one end of a football and four numbers on the other end (2,5,7,9). We then perform receiver drills with these footballs. They key is that when a receiver catches the ball he has to loudly say the letter or number he sees.
This forces the player to look the ball all the way in and really concentrate on catching the ball before going up field for YAC yards (Yards after Catch). I have seen people actually paint the noses of the balls white to make it stand out. I usually just use a permanent sharpy marker.
P.S. if you want, the letters can be significant to your team or a goal, ours stand for “No selfish Play Ever”
