Here are a couple of my favorite [tag]football coaching drills[/tag]. We fit these in as often as possible; quick and effective.
The first drill is great for linemen or running backs and gets them to fire out. Have a coach bounce the ball on a cadence call and have the players fire out 5 yards before the ball hits the ground. You can make the ball bounce as high as you like to start and slowly start to bounce it lower as your team progresses.
A little variation to the drill is in a one on one situation the player can catch the ball before it bounces.
It’s great for the players to do at home also, because it gets parents or family members involved.
Another drill I like to run is sweeps. This will teach players to run the ball carrier towards the sideline and tackle the player or force them out of bounds.
You start this [tag]football[/tag] drill with the ball carrier and defender parallel with each other about 5 feet apart. The ball carrier is going to run a sweep and the goal of the defender is to run parallel with the ball carrier and make the tackle or force them out of bounds.
