Some of the best ideas for football drills and coaching tips come from coaches who send in their favorite tips for me to share on football coaching websites. Try these drills from Jason to motivate your team.
From Jason…
Drill 1
A drill that is not new but has always been fun and meant a lot to the players is what we call the “How bad do you want it….”
At the end of practice we put one coach on the goal line and another coach on the 30 yd line. All the players line up on the goal line, the coach on the goal line has the ball, and they throw it up, over, high, squib or whatever…. All the players go for it. The player who gets it each time can sit out. Great competition and it enforces you to never quit even when you are tired (like at the end of practice).
Parents and players get into it…. The players actually ask for it …
Drill 2
One of the best responses I got all of last year was in the second half of the season when I stretched out and ran wind sprints with the team at the end of practice. I know its not the breakthrough idea of the summer but to get that connection with my team last year was the easiest thing I did all year. I noticed immediately at practice the next day when they all wanted to challenge me and the other coaches. I didn’t know it at the time but running with them helped create a competitive spirit.
I believe if the kids want to compete and win you will have an easier time coaching.
