Football Lineman Drills – Frame Up Drill
Here are a couple of football lineman drills that I have used year after year. The second football drill works great with your youth teams.
I like to make sure that my kids keep a solid frame both off the line and through the duration of the block. This football drill is done in two steps.
First O-Lineman positions himself against the defender in the proper blocking position (head up, feet spread, back straight, elbows in, etc.) on the whistle he drives the defender backwards trying to maintain his “frame” through the duration of the block, after several yards coach yells “FRAME” or “HOLD” at which point the O-Lineman freezes and the football coaches check their frame and position. This is a great drill both fully suited and half suited.
Another drill that I noticed that the kids enjoy is a football hitting drill. Just like duck duck goose. All the kids get in a big circle on a knee. One runs around the circle tapping one on a helmet. They run in opposite directions meeting in the middle, then race back to the hole the “goose” came from. The loser becomes “it”.
