Here is one of my football practice drills that I like to do on the first few days of practice before equipment handout. This football drill gives the football coaches tremendous insight to new players’ abilities and mindset.

Give two of the players hand-held hitting bags, line them up side by side with a tackling dummy about 5 to 10 yards directly behind them, then have one player at a time line up opposite the two players holding the bags.

On the whistle all the single player has to do is touch (or tackle) the dummy while getting past the bag holders while they try to keep to block him. Do not stop this football drill without the single player touching the dummy unless it is absolutely necessary (sometimes it takes a minute or two).  Switch the bag holders every few turns.

I have only had to stop this drill early a few times in 4 years and those players always completed the drill the next day we ran it.

My players love running that one and it teaches them to never give up!
