When you are planning your [tag]football practice[/tag] give this [tag]football drill[/tag] a try. It may be more for youth football but I have used this drill with players from youth football to high school [tag]football[/tag]. The emphasis is to improve speed and keep the players in the zone and focused.
It is really more of a competition.
Set up two equally matched teams.
Set up “stations” in a relay race type of sprints.
1st Station:
Both teams start off running through foot ladders for 10 yards
2nd Station:
The next station is a zig- zag 15 yard sprint, players run from cone to cone
3rd Station:
The next station is the 10 yard square (Sprint, lateral sprint, back peddle, cross overs)
4th Station:
This last station is a full speed sprint back to the start
This drill gets the two teams to be competitive and is a great speed workout. It always ends up best of 3 to determine a winning team.
