Football Practices – Warm Up Routines

I’ve gotten a whole bunch of requests recently for fresh ideas for football practices.  Here are a couple of ideas that my subscribers sent in.  Give these a try to liven up your practice time!

From Earl…
I’m not quite sure if this is what your looking for or not, but here is my 2 cents to contribute to the football drills.
Before every football practice we go through our warm-up routine. While this is going on, I set up four cones:  Something we call the square.

The football coaches call a player out and he gets to call who he wants to go against out and they get into a good stance and engage each other before the whistle is blown.  At the sound of the whistle they stay low and try to drive their opponent out of the square.   We call about 4 pairs per day.  This brings a little excitement to the start of practice.
Football Practices
From Terry…
Warrior drill–

Box is 10 yds. by 8 yds.
3 blockers,
1 ball carrier,
1 tackler.
Tackler has 12 seconds to get to the ball carrier, no blocking below waist. The team cheers him on; all he has to do is touch ball carrier. Line the blockers up, ball carrier behind, blow whistle. Blockers keep blocking until 12 seconds up.
