Here is a [tag]football tackling drill[/tag] that the team loves. It is a variation of the old “Bull in the Ring”.
Instead of the person in the middle having players called out to run in and tackle him, a [tag]football coach[/tag] stands outside the ring and calls a player out that has to run through the ring to the opposite side. The player in the middle has to react quickly, and get into position to make a tackle. If they do not react, they can get bowled over by the runner. Usually a tackle is made, and that runner now stays in the middle, with the player making the tackle going to the outside ring.
This teaches [tag]football[/tag] players to react quick, get into a break-down position, and make a good tackle–very similar to game conditions.
