Here is a football tackling drill that the team loves. It is a variation of the old “Bull in the Ring”.
Instead of the person in the middle having players called out to run in and tackle him, a football coach stands outside the ring and calls a player out that has to run through the ring to the opposite side. The player in the middle has to react quickly, and get into position to make a tackle. If they do not react, they can get bowled over by the runner. Usually a tackle is made, and that runner now stays in the middle, with the player making the tackle going to the outside ring.
This teaches football players to react quick, get into a break-down position, and make a good tackle–very similar to game conditions.
