These are some of the football training drills and tips that were sent to me by my readers. Try them out with your team!
From Darin,
One football drill that we run that is proven to be successful with our players is the offense explosion drill. All the quarterbacks, wide receivers and running backs line up in a single line. All the linemen line up in 2 rows across from each other. The coach is the quarterback which will call the hut and hand off the ball. The first 2 linemen go down in their stance and correct spacing, facing 2 other coaches with blocking dummies who are directly in front of them.
As the quarterback coach says “hut”, then the 2 linemen fire out to create a hole for the running back and the rest of the linemen stay in a line facing each other to try and strip the ball as he runs through them and then to the open hole that the 2 linemen have created. Once the running back clears the hole then he meets another coach with a blocking dummy that gives him a pop whereby he has to run through it to complete a touchdown.
From Mark,
Tips:
1). Devote a few moments at practice to play “500.” Lob the ball out to 4-6 kids and let one try to catch it. A great drill for receivers (everybody) and defensive backs.
2). Round up some business friends with access to lots of pre-season football (or baseball) tickets, a suite if possible, and take the kids to a game, any kind of game. Some kind of fun activity.
3). Have hot dogs and hamburgers after flag football practice on occasion, the simpler the better. No printed invitations!
