Jogging is strictly prohibited in all phases of our conditioning and football training drills. Our players are required to either sprint, or walk at the appropriate times.
Jogging Prohibited
We spend a lot of time on “Good Starts, Good Sprinting Form (staying on your toes, essentially track sprinter skills). We have seen a significant increase in our foot speed and cardio recovery time.
All of training centers on enhancing recovery time from whistle to whistle.
- Players are never allowed to bend over (even in the huddle).
- We are always upright with chest high and lungs expanded (even when everyone “takes a knee”).
- Hands may be placed on the top of the head if needed.
- Our only other recovery position is to lay flat on your back (only in case of nausea or on the brink of fainting).
- Again, at no time are players allowed to bend over with hands on knees and compressing the lungs.
This works against recovery time.
I’ve pointed this out because shorter recovery time has transferred in more speed, quickness and explosiveness.
Our goal is to always be sufficiently recovered by the time we break the huddle on either side of the ball.
