Free Football Drills
There are times when every football coach must enforce certain so-called gut-busting drills, either for disciplinary measures or following a poor performance. These free football drills are a great way to really work your team hard and make them aware of aches in places they never knew existed.
The first of the free football drills that will bust a gut or two is called “20 to 1”. Divide your team into two groups that line-up side-by-side each on either goal line. The first group starts by dropping and doing 20 push-ups, followed by a 100-yard sprint to the other goal line. In the meantime, the second group does 20 sit-ups then a 100-yard sprint. Once the groups finish their sprints, the first group now does 19 sit-ups while the second group does 19 push-ups. These actions are alternated, ending with 1 push-up or sit-up. If desired, the winner of the drill can receive some type of additional incentive or reward.
The next of the free football drills can be used as an alternate running warm-up at your next practice. This drill, called “Whistle Sprints” lives up to its name as it includes both sprinting and a whistle. Start by lining up your players in a straight line and using that formation to jog either around the field or from goal post to goal post. Have them maintain a light jog until the sound of your whistle, whereupon the last player in the line sprints to the front. Upon reaching the head of the line, the players resume their light jogging pace. Don’t hesitate to blow the whistle multiple times to have more than 1 players sprinting at once.
