These [tag]free football tips[/tag] were sent in by two of my readers, Greg and Frankie. I wanted to pass these on for you to try with your teams. Keep the ideas coming!
From Greg”¦
As a former [tag]safety[/tag], one of the more valuable [tag]football[/tag] tips taught to me when I was playing was a tip to help anticipate the play.
“Watch the [tag]guard[/tag]” was repeated to us every [tag]practice[/tag].
“Key on the guard” my coach would tell me. “He will tip off the play to you 90% of the time”.
From his stance, if he fires out, you know it is a [tag]running play[/tag].
If looks like he is leaning back and not putting as much pressure on the down hand in his stance, it will be a [tag]passing play[/tag] (and in rare instances, a draw play) and if he leaves his position and pulls, it will be a running play to the outside.
This was a great tip to get the jump on reacting to the play.
From Frankie”¦
Here’s a little [tag]drill[/tag] we run to practice [tag]fumble[/tag] recoveries: 2 players lay with the top of their helmets touching, as [tag]coach[/tag] stands above them. Coach blows the whistle, & throws the football so that it bounces around like a fumble. Both boys race to get up & cover the ball.
Definitely makes the players scramble quicker.
