As a former safety, one of the more valuable football tips taught to me when I was playing was a tip to help anticipate the play.
“Watch the guard” was repeated to us every practice.
“Key on the guard” my coach would tell me. “He will tip off the play to you 90% of the time”.

From his stance, if he fires out, you know it is a running play.
If looks like he is leaning back and not putting as much pressure on the down hand in his stance, it will be a passing play (and in rare instances, a draw play) and if he leaves his position and pulls, it will be a running play to the outside.
This was a great tip to get the jump on reacting to the play.

Here’s a little drill we run to practice fumble recoveries:   2 players lay with the top of their helmets touching, as coach stands above them.  Coach blows the whistle, & throws the football so that it bounces around like a fumble.  Both boys race to get up & cover the ball.

Definitely makes the players scramble quicker.
