Many coaches write in asking for ideas for free football training drills.  Here is one suggestion that has worked for me in the past.Free Football Training Drills

From Shane…
The idea I would like to introduce is an obstacle course that I created a few months ago.

Materials needed:
1. Tractor tires (equal size)
2. Cones
3. Irrigation line or anything that can be used to make a circle (5-10 yards in diameter)
4. Coffin bags or hurdles

I do not have the software to draw out the football drill but I will explain the best I can.  Generally, I like to do things like this on a Wednesday or Friday to keep the football players competitive, working hard and having fun.

Obstacle course:
1. Sprint out 10 yards (from a positional stance)
2. Then approaching and running over a set of coffin bags or low hurdles
3. Continue towad a zig zag drill that has cones layed out in 45 degree angles, players must plant outside the cone
5. Proceed toward the circle that you have layed down past zig zag drill and sprint around it starting at the right side of the circle
6. After 1 loop around the circle, the player srints back toward the starting line
7. 10 yards from the starting line is the tractor tire
8. Player must flip the tire until it has cleared the starting line
9. Once the tire has cleared the starting line, the next player in line can begin the same obstacle course.
10. Meanwhile, the previous player must roll the tire back to its original place and sprint through the line.

My team had such a great time with this drill and yet they also got a great workout out of it.
