Here is one of the [tag]running back football drills[/tag] we use frequently. It helps for footwork, ball control, and thought processing.
Start out with two cones and four hand held dummy bags. You will also need some of your [tag]football[/tag] players to hold the dummy bags and help to make contact with the [tag]running back[/tag] as they are going to each bag.
Place 1 cone at the 5 yard line and zig-zag the hand held dummies every 5 yards with players holding them and then the 2nd cone will go at the end to sprint through.
The RB starts at one cone and has the football on the outside hand and runs towards the first diagonal bag in which he then covers the ball as the guy holding the bag makes a contact “pop” on the RB as the RB then begins to spin inside and all in one motion switches the ball to the outside hand. Then he heads towards the next diagonal bag. He repeats this process until he finishes through the last cone with a burst into the end zone.
This [tag]football drill[/tag] has helped develop really good ball control and balance for our athletes.
