This is one of the drills for running backs in football that John sent to me. Try this out with your team tonight!
From John,
This football drill we call the hero drill.
You have all of your running backs line up in a single file line and they are going against the rest of the team. Running backs will take on three tacklers each time they go. The field is 10-15 yards wide and 15 yards between each tackler.
O-running back line
X 10-15 yards X
X O X 1st line of tacklers
X O X 2nd line of tacklers
X O X 3rd line of tacklers
Couple of rules. Tacklers have to tackle from the waist up and the running backs can not lower their shoulder. This helps the running backs on juke moves or spins and this helps the tacklers on keeping their head up and clubbing their arms around the runner.
The goal is for the runner to get by all three tacklers without being tackled. As soon as the runner gets by the first tackler the 2nd tackler can start moving up. If the runner gets tackled, he must get back up and move down the field to the next tackler. When the runner gets past the second defender the third tackler can start moving up. The tacklers are the rest of your football team. If the running back makes it through all three tacklers without being tackled than he is the hero.
