I’ve gotten a whole bunch of requests for strength and conditioning for football over the past few days. Here’s an idea that Charles sent to me that you should try!
From Charles…
I used this football drill for conditioning for the last four years, and it’s really helped in developing their leg strength.
The drill starts with 5 to 6 players on the line.
They will go into the four point stance. Then you will have the same number of team mates line up in front of them. Those players will go down into the fetal position.
On command or whistle the players in the four point will then try to leap out and over them. By having the players in front of them; it makes them not just jump out but they also have to jump up to clear their team mate. They are also instructed that if they can’t clear their team mate at first they are to fall to the side never on top of their team mate.
This drill is also ran out of the ready ,3,4,point position. Once the players get into this drill they will love it and you will not believe the increase in their leg strength. It also works mentally; it’s competitive and most of all the kids have blast with this one.
I haven’t really given it a name; all I say when its time for the drill is (how far can you go) and they respond all the way coach . Have fun.
