Strength and Conditioning Program for Football – Team Conditioning Drill

This is a strength and conditioning program for football that has worked well.  It can be especially effective with smaller football teams where the players have to play both defense and offense.

If you have a small school team (27 players or less), only about 15 play on a regular basis and therefore these football players are going both ways. So you have to teach the same guys defense and offense.

As you probably understand this is a difficult task with limited practice time. So here’s something that’ helps (lineman) work the same guys offensively and defensively to stay low and be aggressive:

Starting in a good stance they fire out and dive on their bellies (none want to stand up, then belly dive), we then bear crawl. As we bear crawl, on the coaches command, we drop and do the butt roll (left, right; as many times as you want) and then bear crawl to the end.

This is also a great conditioner. The players seem more exerted after this football drill than with sprints.
