When a defense is playing zone in the secondary, a receiver needs to be able to find the seam in that zone in order to be successful.  Here are wide receiver drills football that hone this skill.Wide Receiver Drills Football

What you need –
You can either mark off area covered by a ‘zone’ defense, or you can have actual players in the secondary.  The premise of the drill remains the same.  A wide receiver will work with a QB on this play.

How this drill works –
This football drill will work on a receiver’s understanding of how a zone defense is going to look.  It also teaches them to recognize the areas of the zone defense that can be exploited.

The receiver goes up to a zone directly ahead, and then sees the player is not in man-to-man – so he seeks the area between the zones.

Coaches need to help their receivers adapt their pass patterns to recognize the zones.  Each zone will be different, as will each pattern that is run through it.  By working on this drill the receivers will be able to see the defense and work with the quarterback to exploit it.

Result –
Better recognition of zone defenses and to help receivers learn to find the holes in a zone.
