One of my favorite football drills to have my kids do is called GEARS. I usually set out 8 cones at about 8-10 yds apart. We will jog to the first cone and then “Blast” full speed to the next. You change gears from cone to cone. Jog, Blast, Jog, Blast etc.

A great football drill that works for us that teaches proper tackling form and aggressiveness is our “Smack Down Drill“.
We have a player stand, with his back to a pole vault pit. In his arms he holds a hand held, square tackling pad. We put a line about 5 yards away facing him. The football coach tells the defensive tackling line what side the ball is on, then blows the whistle. The tackler goes full-steam and puts the ball carrier on his back on the pit, with his head on the proper side. Face mask on the ball. The kids love the drill and we have never had anyone hurt doing it. Suggestion: have two pads, one for lineman and one for backs.
