Coming up with new drills for [tag]youth football defense[/tag] can sometimes be a challenge. Try these [tag]drills[/tag] sent to me by two of my readers. They have worked well for me.
From Peter,
Defensive Line Drill
Have three [tag]offensive lineman[/tag] stand on the line facing a [tag]defensive lineman[/tag]. Behind those three have two more [tag]football[/tag] players about 5 yards off them. Behind those two have one player with a football.
Object is to have the one defensive lineman fight through the first 3 [tag]blockers[/tag]. Once he has made ground, blow the whistle for the next two. Once ground is gain, blow whistle and have him [tag]tackle[/tag] man with ball.
From Jeremy,
“Run the Loop” DE-LINEMAN
Defensive linemen runs the figure 8 as fast as they can. The drill evolves into chasing and trying to catch a partner. (Teach both directions)
Coaching Point: Player’s inside shoulder should be lowered. Stay close to the edge. Don’t stand up straight.
