Coming up with new drills for youth football defense can sometimes be a challenge. Try these drills sent to me by two of my readers. They have worked well for me.
From Peter,
Defensive Line Drill
Have three offensive lineman stand on the line facing a defensive lineman. Behind those three have two more football players about 5 yards off them. Behind those two have one player with a football.
Object is to have the one defensive lineman fight through the first 3 blockers. Once he has made ground, blow the whistle for the next two. Once ground is gain, blow whistle and have him tackle man with ball.
From Jeremy,
“Run the Loop” DE-LINEMAN
Defensive linemen runs the figure 8 as fast as they can. The drill evolves into chasing and trying to catch a partner. (Teach both directions)
Coaching Point: Player’s inside shoulder should be lowered. Stay close to the edge. Don’t stand up straight.
