I’m often asked for suggestions for a youth football drill. Here are two simple coaching tips that will pay huge dividends with your team.Youth Football Drills

From Jerry,
Our 3rd grade team likes to use this football drill for the lineman.

We take a 1x 12 about 4-6 feet long and lay it on the ground.
We put an offensive lineman and a defensive lineman right on top of it and have the defensive lineman drive the offensive lineman over the board.

It helps keep the DL lineman’s feet apart and then at the end we have them shuck, rip or swim past them and hit a dummy that we have taped a football around to simulate the RB. This in turns teaches the DL to put his head on the ball when he tackles helping to try to force a fumble.

We really like this drill and the kids seem t like it to.

From Russ,
“CRUNCH” Award.

I reward my players who I see in games (and on film) making a “crunching” tackle or block, a big Nestles Crunch Chocolate Bar. You wouldn’t believe how this small incentive fires up the players!
Everybody on the team wants one! I give out “bite” size Nestle Crunch bars for other incentives. I make sure that by the end of the season that each player has been awarded a chocolate bar.
