Youth Football Drills – Open Field and Lineman Duties

Looking for youth football drills?  You’ve come to the right place!  Try out this idea below and let me know how it goes for you.

From Josh…
I coach football to the little guys, ages 7,8,9.  The biggest problem that I face is they don’t know what to do in the open field–both the backs with a lead blocker and the linebackers with corner help.

What I like to do take an angle tackling football drill and add a lead blocker.  This is giving me a back and a full back out of either the I-formation of splitbacks formation.  I put cones about 10 yards left or right of center and 3 yards apart.  The back will take a pitch to the outside but must go through the cones.  First the fullback will go through and clear the way by taking on the linebacker.  The back then goes through and has to make a move on the corner by either with a juke or with power.Youth Football Drills

I like this football drill because it works with all four players.  The backs learn how to block  on the outside and to read a block and proceed up field.  The linebackers learn to take on a block and fight it off to make a play with the corner trying to stay clear of a block and clean up the play.
