Bill and William, two of my readers, came up with some great suggestions covering football drills for youth football players.  Keep ‘em coming!Youth Football Players

From Bill,
Here is an angle pursuit drill that we do, that the kids like.

We have them line up single file and lay down looking at the sky (also can be laying face down).  We get 1 runner 5 to 10 yards behind the line.  We tell only the ball carrier which way to run and blow the whistle and the line jumps up and runs at an angle to beat the runner to a cone about about 30 yards down field.

You can also do this with hit it’s; have them do 3 or 4 hit it’s and then stay down and do this drill.  It’s great conditioning.

From William,
I am a middle school coach and have three assistants and have 45 players. I divide into four groups place a captain with each group and rotate every 12 minutes. Not one minute longer or I would loose them.  I speak to the benefits of the drill and why we do them. I am undefeated this year best start in four years. I keep drills to a minimum and make sure they are well planned out and involve all players. I keep them moving with “NO” slack time.
