Conditioning Drills for Football – Fox and Hound

Traditional conditioning drills for football can get a bit stale.  Here’s an idea that has livened things up quite a bit in my practices.Conditioning Drills for Football

You want the players to be in shape but the players don’t like wind sprints or line touches.  To accomplish the same thing try running this football drill called the “Fox and Hound“.

Set cones 10 yard apart in a square.
Have 2 lines starting at opposite corners with one line being the ball carrier and one line being the tackler.
Both the football carrier and the tackler start running clockwise at the same time.  The ball carrier makes one lap and hands the ball off to the next player in line.  That player then runs the ball around the cones.  When the tackler gets back to his line, the next tackler chases the new ball carrier.

If the tacklers catch the ball runners, the ball changes sides.  The players end up running 40 yard sprints and don’t even know it.  They beg for this drill!
