Football Plays and Drills – Receiver Drill
Here are some football plays and drills that I’ve been using with my team. It’s an idea that has livened things up quite a bit in my football practices.
I have 10 players make two lines of 5 facing each other spread apart like about 5 yards. And in each line the players are spread out maybe a 2 or 3 yards apart. The idea is for them to kind of form a tunnel or a lane, then I get two other players, one on one end of the tunnel, and the other on the other end. They are both facing one direction.
Next have the football coach lineup about 10 yard or so, in front of the player at the front of the tunnel, and then throw a football to him. His objective is to turn upfield, and try to get through the tunnel without the player at the end of the tunnel tackling him. If the runner gets tackled then he does 5 to 10 up-downs, if the runners make it through without being tackled, the defender does 5 to 10 up-downs.
The football players who make up the tunnel have the following job: if the runner gets close to them they push him towards the middle forcing him to face the defender one on one.
This works really well, it makes the receiver react quickly to the defender, after catching the football.
