Running Back Football Drills – Sideline Drill
These ideas for running back football drills are ones that I find most effective. Your running backs gain agility and learn how to run the sidelines and stay in bounds.
If your football field is marked, head over about 10 yards out from one of the sidelines (if your practice field isn’t lined, you can space out some cones 5 yards apart to simulate a sideline).
Take 3 kids with hand shields and put them 5 yards away from the sideline and 5 yards apart from each other.
Take your running back and either:
A.) hand the football off or
B.) run a little toss to him, so the direction he is heading in is the area between the sideline and your players with hand shields.
As he runs through these two obstacles, the players with hand shields give him a real good shot trying to knock your running back out of bounds.
Your RB should be DELIVERING the blow to the defender, not absorbing it during this football drill. All the meanwhile, he is trying to keep his feet moving on contact and staying in bounds.
