These [tag]youth football drills[/tag] are good for young kids who play in the same weight class. The drill will produce big hits and you will find out what type of players you have. I find it’s a get motivator for the team.
First, set up four cones in a 5 yard square. Next split your team in half, having an offense and a defense.
The offense will run the ball and the defense will make a form tackle. The offensive side will line behind a cone and the defensive side will line up diagonally behind the cone. The coach will blow the whistle at the start of the drill. Players are to run full speed around the cone in front of them then turn and meet the opponent in the center.
Offensively, the ball carrier is instructed not to juke the defender. This is good for short yardage runs. The runner will be reminded to hold the [tag]football[/tag] tight and to never stop move his feet forward on contact.
Defensively, we are teaching: full speed, head up, shoulder on the belt line, wrapping up the ball carrier and driving our feet through the ball carrier.
If one side is not going full speed it will tell in the middle. The momentum from the turn around the cone will be the judge. The offense will run over the defender if he is slow and vice versa.
