During our spring practices, right after our initial stretching/warm-up period at the beginning of practice we have a 5 minute period we call the “Circle of Life” that we got from watching the Florida Gator football practices.
We circle the team, call out two players for one on one, man on man, blocker vs. defender drill and let the fur fly. It is very intense and sets the tempo for practice.
We alternate this football drill with what we call the “Tulsa Drill” which is the age old tried and true Oklahoma Drill but done on three levels–one ball carrier (no Hand off) OL vs. DL, ,with another OL vs. LBer 5 yards back, and a third level another 5 yards back with a WR vs. DB.
Once again it is a very intense, highly competitive drill with coaches coaching with their “hair on fire” and players getting after it. These football practice plans set the tempo for the rest of the day’s practice.
