I do have some success stories for youth football coaching drills. This is one drill we do that keeps everything fun for practice. It seems to have a good response from the kids.
We actually do this with our defense, most importantly the linebackers and safety position. There are two backs on offense that each start out near the football. They are each given a specific task, and they go in opposite directions.
It is then the linebacker’s or safety’s responsibility to identify who has the ball and call out the direction, Roger or Louie. If right, then they reduce lap time, if wrong, then they increase it by one lap.
You should run this drill with all of the defense getting a chance to perform. It allows a better read and react for game time. It leads to a lot less confusion during games, when misdirection is a very big part of youth football.
