Last week, I sent out a request for my newsletter subscribers to send in their favorite [tag]football drills[/tag] for [tag]coaching football special teams[/tag].   Check out this one below (very creative!).Coaching Football Special Teams

From Mark…Keeping interest and technique.
My [tag]football coach[/tag]es all get itineraries. The most amount of time I allow for [tag]football[/tag] drills is 20 minutes.   I have found that this keeps the interest in all the players. I also incorporate a special teams session everyday for 20 minutes.

You don’t realize how important this is until its too late! Any player can run a play but can any player block for that play–this is where the technique comes in.

The first week of [tag]football practice[/tag] I will not put a play in at all.   The first week is all technique. This will be my 5th season as a head coach for 11- 13 year olds.   I found that by teaching technique the first week and not putting in any plays has kept the interest in all my players because they are excited to see what we will be running offensively, and has made them better players.

Everything runs smoother when you go to team offense and run plays.   Also at the end of the season I have my senior players make a speach to the younger players and have them tell the staff what they enjoyed the most about the season and what they felt we needed to work on more as a team.

Needless to say in five years I’ve taken a losing program along with my staff and turned it around.   We were in the 2nd round of playoffs 3 years running and last season we were Division A champions.
