Special thanks to Todd and to Reginald for sending these [tag]drills[/tag] and tips in. Filling the [tag]football coaching shoes[/tag] for [tag]youth[/tag] [tag]football[/tag] requires special insight into motivation! Try these out with your team.
From Todd”¦
Just a way to get your players to appreciate each other a little more.
At the 9/10 age group, most of the time the bigger boys get stuck on the line. Try to put your skilled guys up front and challenge them to [tag]block[/tag] the correct person [tag]defensive[/tag] person. Also allow the [tag]lineman[/tag] to become the QB , Backs, and [tag]receivers[/tag].
You will give them a little taste of this and they will all see that the grass is not always greener on the other side.
From Reginald”¦
My son is 8 years old and plays tight-end.
For [tag]passing[/tag] drills, I found it hard to get him enthused about [tag]sprinting[/tag] for passes. I pulled out a stop watch. I had him and a few friends running 8 yard slants and 8 yards and out. I timed each one’s ability to get to the 8 yards before they broke. It was like magic. Each one wanted to beat their previous time.
I pushed the concept that you are always competing against your last time instead of each other. Towards the end I subtract an eighth of a second to boost moral.
