I received this suggestion on football linemen training from Rob in New Hampshire. Keep ‘em coming.
From Rob,
I am the Head Coach of our Junior Pee-Wee football team in New Hampshire. I also coach tight-ends for the local high school.
With my young linemen I find that they have a habbit of standing up out of their 3point stance before engaging the defensive player. I have the following drill that has worked well. I take a tarp and have parents hold the corners and keep the tarp just above the players heads. I then have the players drive out of their 3point stance and stay low until the und of the tarp. I know that there are shoots that are professionally made but this is a nice cheap way to do it.
My players all stay low and we both know in football the low man always wins.
Here’s another tip for your youth team practice:
From Justin,
To keep all the kids having fun at the end of practice instead of just running sprints or jogging around the field sometimes I strap the flags on myself and the kids have to pull my flags before we leave practice.
