Coming up with new ideas for [tag]football practice[/tag], especially the end of practice, can be challenging.   Here’s an idea that works well.

At the end of my [tag]football[/tag] practices I like to run “sprint-walks” instead of outdated gassers.

Set Up:   Football Practice

You’ll need 5 cones set up in a row at 10 yard intervals.
1. line up 6-8 players at a time. First row sprints 10 yards then walks 30 yards. Have each row do the same thing.
2. first row now sprints 20 yards and walks 20 yards.
3. now first row sprints 30 yards and walks 10 yards.
4. sprint whole 40 yards, followed by each row of course.
One time through constitutes 1 Set.

Benefits:

Players get a break in between each sprint as they walk and then the rest of the team sprints.
Each ‘set’ is a total of 100 yards. Performing 2-4 sets is like running 200-400 yards. This not only builds speed but endurance.
More game-like running. Seriously, in an actual [tag]football game[/tag] (at any level) when are you sprinting 40 or more yards per play?
