Take a look at this submission from Greg, one of my subscribers.  A great idea for offensive football drills that can work with all age groups.Offensive Football Drills

From Greg…
I am an offensive coordinator for a 10 & 11 year old AAA team.

As a former running back myself I have created a football drill to get them moving their feet, the ball from hand to hand and incorporating a straight arm. The results have been amazing as I find most of the young running backs don’t take advantage of straight arms. The ones that do tend to get an extra few yards per carry but they need to practice it so it is a natural reaction in a game situation.

The drill is simple. I arrange the cones in two rows spaced about 5 yards apart.
The cones in the two rows are offset by approximately 5 yards as well. I typically invite some parents to stand at each cone holding a large dummy bag but the drill also works without dummy bags.

Now the kids have to run at the cones. When they reach the first cone they need to do all of the following simultaneously

- make a hard cut towards next cone
- switch football from one arm to the other arm (away from the parents)
- give the bag a straight arm (The kids love to hit the parents)

At the last cone they sprint 5 yards into the end zone.

It seems like a lot for the little guys to think about but after they do it once or twice it starts to become very natural.

The first week after we did this football drill it was amazing to see our kids actually doing it in a game.
