Take a look at this submission from Dan, a Texas high school football coach. A great line of scrimmage football drill that can work with all age groups.
From Dan…
To promote intensity on the line of scrimmage:
Once all players are comfortable and consistent with 3 pt. stance and fitting up into a block, have them form 2 lines facing each other. Everyone is in 3 pt. stance 1 yard apart. On coach’s command, each player blasts out and tries to move the player he’s facing back. At the end of each rep., one line shifts down so that the players face someone different each rep. (although we try to avoid big mis-matches). Try to really build it up and make it a competition between the lines: you can let the winning line have bragging rights that day and the losing line do pushups also.
Besides just pushing each other, you can have one side be defenders and try to shed and get behind the blocker WITHOUT getting blown out of the lane. You can have the line doing the blocking block to the left or to the right. I usually always start off with both lines just trying to move each other back first.
This drill takes only 10 minutes and the results over the ensuing games were amazing. The intensity at the LOS increased tremendously and the lineman became more competitive. We usually did this drill every practice with the entire team.
