Special thanks to Craig for sending this [tag]football coaching tip[/tag]. If you’re looking for [tag]football tackling drills[/tag], you should try this out!
From Craig…
Not necessarily a new [tag]football drill[/tag] but I call it (BTB) Bring the Base tackling Drill as it places emphasis on footwork and bringing a good base into the tackle.
Running back & defender operate with in a 7-10 sq yd area
The defender assumes a good hitting position. Hands are placed behind the back.
As the running back approaches (with as much speed & jitter-bugging as the coach deems fit”¦progress the [tag]football[/tag] drill from very slow to 90% top speed)”¦the defender must maintain a good hitting base with appropriate footwork (not crossing the feet out) into a helmet across the outside number position.
At the point of contact unloading the hips (on the rise) into the tackle is emphasized. The running back must decelerate at the point of contact.
The next progression would be to unload the hips and throw the arms (on the rise) up and through the RB’s arm pits.
