I received this suggestion for [tag]football tackling exercises[/tag] from George in Apollo Beach, Florida.Football Tackling Exercises

From George…
This is a [tag]football drill[/tag] for new [tag]youth football[/tag] coaches.

My kids are ages 9 and 10.   We’re 26 -0 over the last two years and have given up less than 6 point per game over those two years.   I’ve coached at most levels.

I’m a defensive coordinator and the heartbeat of good defense is pursuit and solid tackling.   Our team has 20 minutes of tackling every [tag]football practice[/tag] (even on offensive practice days).   One of the mistakes that new coaches make is that in head-up tackling [tag]football drills[/tag] the lines are too long.   They invariably put 6 or 7 guys behind the north and south cones and no one gets more than 2 or 3 tackles.   Shorten the lines to 3 or 4 and watch the difference.

The players get a lot more work and you can just feel the rhythm develop.   It moves a lot faster.   Also, every 5 minutes shift one of the lines in each [tag]football[/tag] drill group to the neighboring group.   By doing that they will line up in front of a variety of kids and their overall technique will benefit as they make related adjustments.   The kids love the action, tempo and hitting.
