There are a couple of [tag]football drills[/tag] I like to run, which my players really enjoy.

The first football drill is the “In the Crowd” drill.   So often during our games the quarterback tends to throw a [tag]football[/tag] that is in the middle of a crowd and, essentially, up for grabs.Free Football Training Drills

I generally run this [tag]football drill[/tag] in the beginning where I line up my players shoulder to shoulder.   They stand about 15 yards from me.   I then proceed to throw different kinds of passes, mostly a lob type throw.   The players battle for the ball in the air.   I have a competition that allows the player to exit as soon as he has caught 2 passes.   By doing this, the crowd gets smaller and more people compete for the pass.   The last player standing gets to run a lap.   It creates a great deal of competition, but also develops the focusing on the ball instinct.   This drill helps you both offensively and defensively.   Our defense’s interception total greatly increased after I started running this drill a year or so ago.

The second drill is my 1 minute drill.   I run this at the end of the game.   I give the offense a formation to run out of.   It is a formation that has different pass patterns for the receivers.   They have 1 minute to start the drill from their own 5 yard line.   They have to go down the field in that minute or the game is over.   It is a no-huddle drill.   Once the first play is finished, they quickly line up again and run out of the same formation.   The clock never stops.

It is a drill that helps teach poise, structure and the ability to march down field under pressure.   The kids really enjoy this drill.   It also helps the defense in reading and reacting.
