Here is one of the [tag]football[/tag] [tag]wide receiver drills[/tag] that I created to do with my wide receivers that is a little off the wall! The players really enjoy it because: 1) it’s challenging and 2) because it simulates just about every catch in the game.
Here is the [tag]football drill[/tag]:
Lay a player on his back.
Take 4 QB’s and spread them around the player at each side of him about 8 to 10 yards apart creating a cross.
The QB at the player’s head and starts with an over the head throw. The receiver can raise his shoulders to catch the football but tries to remain on the ground in any of the throws.
The next to throw is the QB at his feet with a frozen rope straight at his head the next is to the players right side with a frozen rope at his head and finally the QB to his left finishes with a frozen rope to his head.
Start off slow and then pick up speed. The QB’s are allowed to throw the ball anywhere on the side they are on which makes the receiver really concentrate on getting his head around finding the football reacting to it then catching it.
The fact that I have them laying on the ground is because 1) it really works on the upper body strength using all of the muscles a receiver needs to have to be dominant and 2) it simulates floating in the air for those off the ground catches.
It sounds crazy but it’s been really fun for us and the 4 years of coaching high school football it’s developed 4 straight 1000 yard receivers as seniors.
