I’ve coached [tag]football[/tag] at every level except college and pro. One thing occurred to me while watching one of my assistants, who was using terminology that to him seemed second nature, but to an 8 yr old was terribly confusing. My [tag]football coaching philosophy[/tag] changed from that day forward.

I decided to change my approach to include *”little moments” where I teach the boys the terms coaches use every day.
*These are perfect for those beginning age groups.*
Outside: The direction from the placement of the football to the sideline either direction.
Inside: The direction from the sideline to the placement of the football.
Teaching Tool: Get your players used to hearing those terms when referencing offensive/defensive line placement, I.e. Your “inside” shoulder on the tackle’s “outside” shoulder. Reinforce those terms at least twice a week by asking them as a unit where’s the outside? Where’s the inside?
As a youth [tag]football coach[/tag], always keep in mind that what you think might be a simple term could be totally foreign to a young kid.
