The focus of these drills is on football fundamentals, specifically–basic blocking. The blocking drills are step by step drills to learn the proper position, stance and principles with blocking.

If these principles become an everyday part of practice, play calling and blocking roles are easily explained even at the most basic level.

Blocking Drills:
Blocking position:   Catcher’s stance into 3 pt (25% of wt on hand), on go both arms load position (starting a lawn mower), eyes up on target, move per blocking drill, unload arms in contact with defense.

1.   Drive Block Left–Straight ahead, Right shoulder, Left foot power step forward 6″, contact unload drive forward
2.   Drive Block Right–Straight ahead, Left shoulder, Right foot power step forward 6″, contact unload drive forward
3.   Quick Left–Closing the gap, quick 6″ step left, right shoulder, contact unload drive forward
4.   Quick Right–Closing the gap, quick 6″ step right, left shoulder, contact unload drive forward
5.   Wide Left–Blocking defense lined up wide left, right shoulder wide step left back angled 45 degrees, cross over step, square up, contact unload drive forward
6.   Wide Right–Blocking defense lined up wide right, left shoulder wide step right back angled 45 degrees, cross over step, square up, contact unload drive forward
7.   Down Left–Drive block one position over step left and forward at 45 degree angle, contact unload drive forward.
8.   Down Right–Drive block on position over step right and forward at 45 degree angle, contact unload drive forward.
9.   Pull / Trap Left–Rotate body 90 degrees back picking up left foot and pivoting on right foot, release to pull block down the line.
10.   Pull / Trap Right–Rotate body 90 degrees back picking up right foot and pivoting on left foot, release to pull block down the line.

All of these drills are progressive.   The coach has each move executed and critiqued on each whistle blow.   Once understood, the techniques are executed on one whistle.
